- THIRSTY MERC ANNOUNCE SUMMERTIME ‘SHIFTING GEARS’ SHOWS!

In the past 12 months Thirsty Merc have been one of the busiest bands in the country crisscrossed the country at least 5 times, done over 90 shows and ran up over 100,000 Frequent Flier miles between them.

With the temperature rising, and Spring and Summer calling, Rai Thistlethwayte, Phil Stack and Matt Smith, with Mick Skelton on select shows, will work their way around Australia once more from now until Autumn, 2017 on the Shifting Gears Tour.

Kicking off with a crowdfunding campaign in mid 2015, Thirsty Merc released their new, original album, Shifting Gears, last September and the band immediately hit the road on The Good Life Tour. Several weeks into the tour, the band were rocked by the tragic death of their friend, Shane Cooper and the critical injuries suffered by drummer, Mick Skelton, in a terrible car accident putting a halt to everything.

Lead singer, Rai Thistlethwayte, said: “Our hugest thanks to the Aussie Music Industry, the general Music Community, and above all - our Fans - for the support over the last year. Thank you ALL for sticking by us. Life can be so overwhelming and debilitatingly challenging, but it’s through those times that you often experience the most human growth. We’ve got the spirit. And we’re gonna rock these upcoming shows like never before to bring this album home!”

Kicking off on 3 October at the Caloundra Music Festival, the Shifting Gears Tour will take the band to Broken Hill and Mildura as well as Swan Hill for the first time, and back down to Tasmania after a long absence.

Tickets for the Shifting Gears Tour are on sale now.  For further information on all shows, go to www.thirstymerc.com.

- Back To The Grind Tour!!!

There is no better way for a hard working touring rock band to introduce their new single, The Grind from the Shifting Gears album, than with a national tour.

Kicking off on 7 April in the nation’s capitol, Thirsty Merc’s Back To The Grind Tour will hit over 20 cities and towns across all the mainland states through to the end of May 2016 on the NSW South Coast.

Lead singer, Rai Thistlethwayte, is rightly proud of their new single and said:  “After a really hard time at the end of 2015, we've turned the corner into 2016 and we feel the best way to get on with things is to keep busy, keep working hard and do what we love: PLAYING LIVE! We're stoked with our new single too.  It's got the Merc quirk, with grind-y guitars in the choruses, a swaggery tempo, it's a return to our rock roots. Back To The Grind is going to be an unforgettable tour, we can feel it. We'll be giving it our absolute ALL!”

The band’s new album, Shifting Gears, was released late last year and it’s first single, The Good Life, garnered major radio support around the country including the Triple M network and Southern Cross Austereo regional stations.

Tickets for the Back to the Grind Tour are on sale now.  For further information on all shows, go to www.thirstymerc.com.

- THIRSTY MERC ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM AND NATIONAL TOUR!

Shifting Gears to be released 4 September

It’s been 12 years since Thirsty Merc burst onto the Australian music landscape with their first independent EP following up with three critically acclaimed studio albums, an acoustic fan favourites record entitled ‘AAA: Acoustic Anniversary Album’ and a swag of classic, radio staples like 20 Good Reasons, Someday Someday,  Mousetrap Heart and In The Summertime.

Fast forward to 2015 and Thirsty Merc are still excited to be making music, but all things must change and after selling over 200,000 records with Warner Music, this time around the band are tackling the recording and release of their fourth studio album – Shifting Gears - and first new material in five years, independently, and very differently.

Vocalist, songwriter and co-founder, Rai Thistlethwayte, puts it like this, “We’ve haven’t really stopped since 2002, and being around for over a decade, we’ve got lots more experience than when we started. We’ve also got still got loads of energy, and we want to harness that energy to work hard, around the clock, to continue touring and making good music.”

Following songwriting sessions in Sydney, Melbourne, and Los Angeles, the band were ready to get back into the studio and to help realise their vision they utilised crowdfunding platform PledgeMusic, to help get the record recorded and mixed and the response has been overwhelming. In fact, the band reached its goal within 48 hours of the campaign.

With the recording now complete, with production by long time collaborator, Lindsay Gravina (The Living End, Kate Miller Heidke, Roland S Howard) Thirsty Merc have booked Grammy nominated Emily Lazar (Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Sia and The Killers) to master the record in New York ahead of its release on 4 September.

Ahead of the first single from the album, The Good Life, going to radio on 31 July, the band have announced a new national tour kicking off on 14 September in Melbourne before heading to all mainland states and territories throughout October and November.

Tickets for all shows on The Good Life Tour go on sale at 9.00am local times on Monday, 27 July 2015.  For further information on all shows, go to www.thirstymerc.com.

Shifting Gears will be released on 4 September through MGM Distribution
